Linus Goes the Extra Mile for Kids
Over the past decade participation in youth athletics has drastically decreased in urban areas. As a result, many children in these communities will not have the opportunity that so many of us did to learn the underlying lessons of teamwork and leadership; many will never benefit from the positive role models that so many of us learned from and therefore aspired to be like and many will never gain the self confidence, self discipline or feel the self worth that is achieved from participation in childhood team sports.
During the 2009 Boston Marathon, Alex Butmi and Chandler Miller, two members of the Linus Boston Committee, will be teaming up with Good Sports, an organization whose mission is to increase youth participation in sports, fitness, and recreation programs by providing and distributing sports equipment, footwear and apparel to community organizations that offer programs for disadvantaged youth, in efforts to raise awareness and funding for this cause
Between now and April 20th Alex, Chandler and the remaining members of the Linus Boston Committee are dedicated to raising $12,000 for Good Sports. To help reach this goal, we look to your support to help a child experience the same memories, share the same laughs, and create the same friendships as you once did.
